Dominican Republic launches agrotourism and US$120M credit initiatives

The Dominican Republic is implementing two major initiatives to bolster its agricultural sector: a push for agrotourism and a new credit program.

The Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA) has launched the ‘Siembra Progreso’ National Agrotourism Impulse Program. This strategy aims to diversify the country’s tourism beyond coastal areas by integrating rural communities. The program includes farm visits, gastronomic experiences, and training for producers in hospitality. Key projects include the Tilamiches Ecotourism Restaurant in Dajabón and the Avocado Agroecological Park in Cambita Garabitos, the latter involving an investment of RD$194 million to benefit over 2,200 producers.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Banco Agrícola (Bagrícola) have launched the ‘Crédito Asistido’ project. Supported by a US$120 million investment from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the French Development Agency (AFD), the program provides technical assistance and financing to agricultural producers. The initiative focuses on promoting sustainable practices and modernizing production through technological integration and specialized training for agricultural extension professionals.
