Federacciai submits interest in former Ilva assets

Federacciai, the Italian Federation of Steel Enterprises, has submitted a preliminary and non-binding manifestation of interest to acquire the assets of the former Ilva group, currently managed as Acciaierie d'Italia. The proposal is supported by a consortium of 14 Italian steel companies, including several based in Brescia, such as Alfa Acciai, Duferco, and Feralpi Siderurgica.

The interest focuses on the industrial transformation and cold area assets, including plants in Genoa, Novi Ligure, and Racconigi, as well as the cold area of the Taranto site. The proposal explicitly excludes the Taranto hot area, which is subject to a court-ordered shutdown starting October 28 due to high emissions and asbestos concerns. This exclusion aims to mitigate environmental and legal risks.

The move comes amid significant financial and operational pressure. Acciaierie d'Italia faces the imminent exhaustion of its bridge loan in October, which threatens the continuity of all activities. The Italian consortium's bid serves as a domestic alternative to the offer from the Indian group Jindal.
