Federacma proposes 350 million euro safety plan for agricultural machinery

Federacma, the federation of national associations for agricultural, operating, and gardening machinery, has proposed a structural safety plan to the National Council for Economics and Labour (CNEL). The initiative aims to address high fatality rates in the agricultural sector, where an average of over 130 deaths occur annually, with nearly 75 percent caused by tractor rollovers or crushing.

The proposed plan calls for 350 million euros over five years. This includes 70 million euros annually from 2027 to 2031 for the scrapping of obsolete machinery and 25 million euros annually for five years to modernize recoverable equipment. Currently, Italy has approximately 2.15 million tractors in circulation, but roughly 1.2 million lack integrated seat belts and 670,000 lack anti-rollover systems.

In addition to equipment renewal, the strategy focuses on training a qualified network of technicians, with a goal of reaching at least 500 qualified workshops to support the sector.
