Federal District candidates propose arming civilians and transit reforms

Candidates for the Government of the Federal District (DF) have presented diverse platform proposals regarding security and urban mobility.

Two candidates, Expedito Mendonça (PCO) and Professor Robson (PSTU), have proposed arming specific civilian groups. Mendonça suggests the right to self-defense and arming for rural workers and indigenous people involved in land conflicts. Robson proposes providing weapons and self-defense training to women protected by judicial restraining orders. Experts warn that such measures may escalate violence and noted that governors lack the federal authority to legislate on firearm possession.

In terms of infrastructure, candidate Leandro Grass (PT) has prioritized urban mobility. His platform includes recovering the metro system, expanding rail networks to regions such as Recanto das Emas, Ceilândia, and Samambaia, and implementing a gradual zero-fare policy for public transport. Grass also advocated for new transit modes, including Light Rail Vehicles (VLT) and surface trains, to address current maintenance and service issues.
