Federal Electricity Commission workers detained during protest in Campeche

Local authorities and community members in the La Montaña region of Hopelchén, Campeche, detained several CFE employees and trucks for over a week to pressure the utility to resume stalled electric‑line construction. The mayor of Ukum said the action was taken after repeated blackouts and failures in electricity supply. Following the detention, CFE superintendent Gaspar Cobos Santos visited the area and pledged to restart the work, which includes installing ten kilometres of new line and ninety new poles. The utility also agreed to replace four transformers in the region.

The protesters considered the detention the only way to obtain a response, though they clarified that the workers were provided food and adequate conditions during their stay.
