Fed Chair Kevin Warsh calls AI the most profound economic shift of his lifetime

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has described the rise of artificial intelligence as the most profound economic transformation of his lifetime. Speaking at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Warsh expressed strong optimism regarding the technology's ability to drive productivity gains and wealth creation globally.

Warsh noted that while AI could cause short-term inflationary pressures due to high demand and massive investments, its long-term impact on the real economy is expected to be positive. He emphasized that economies and nations that effectively leverage the technology will see significant productivity boosts. However, he cautioned that the path forward may be “bumpy” as the market structures and full impacts on the labor market remain uncertain.

His comments have contributed to a shift in market sentiment, easing fears of further interest rate hikes. Following his remarks, the probability of an October rate hike in the futures market decreased, and global financial markets, including Asian indices, saw positive movement.
