Federal Reserve interest rate hike prompts market speculation

The US Federal Reserve recently raised interest rates by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75% to 4.00%. Following this move, prediction markets like Polymarket show that traders have priced the odds of an additional 25 basis point hike in October at approximately 64.5%, with some data suggesting the probability could reach nearly 70%.

Fed Governor Michael Barr indicated that further policy adjustments may be necessary to ensure inflation returns to the 2% target, noting that economic shocks such as geopolitical conflicts and trade tariffs have contributed to upward price pressures. Meanwhile, the S&P Global flash U.S. Composite PMI Output Index rose to 58.4 in September, marking its highest level since July 2021.

In China, benchmark lending rates remained unchanged for 16 consecutive months, with the one-year loan prime rate at 3% and the five-year rate at 3.5%. Beijing has also released a financial sector plan for 2026-2030 aimed at establishing a modern financial system with Chinese characteristics, focusing on risk prevention and high-standard financial opening-up.
