Federal University of Mato Grosso awarded nine Ministry of Education projects

The Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) secured nine projects under Brazil's Programa Universidades Transformadoras, a Ministry of Education initiative aimed at modernising federal universities. The funding will support 460 new student places and create 61 new faculty positions across strategic fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Statistics, Information Technology, and a program for Brazilian Sign Language/Portuguese studies.

University rector Marluce Souza e Silva said the projects “allow us to advance in technology, inclusion, human rights and respect for differences,” while Vice‑Rector for Undergraduate Teaching Luciane de Almeida Gomes highlighted the move as a decisive step toward bringing digital innovation to interior regions of Mato Grosso.

The programme seeks to strengthen academic structures, expand outreach, and align higher‑education offerings with the country’s scientific, technological and social development goals.
