Mato Grosso higher‑education expansion

In early July 2026, the state of Mato Grosso announced an R$8.4 million cooperation agreement aimed at expanding scientific scholarships. The funding was presented as a boost to research capacity and talent development within the region.

Later that month, the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) received nine projects under Brazil's Programa Universidades Transformadoras, a Ministry of Education programme that seeks to modernise federal universities. The grants will create 460 new student places and 61 faculty positions, focusing on fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, software engineering, statistics, information technology, and a bilingual program for Brazilian Sign Language and Portuguese. University officials highlighted the initiatives as steps toward digital innovation and greater inclusion in interior regions of the state.
