Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina passes veteran pension and caregiver rights reforms

The Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina approved amendments to the Law on the Rights of Demobilised Veterans, establishing a veteran allowance of 1.5 KM per month for service of at least one year. The measure, set to take effect on 1 January 2027, will cost an estimated 234.7 million KM annually and cover 383,494 veterans, a figure criticised by veteran representative Hamzu Krkalić as inflated and poorly justified.

In a separate legislative initiative, the Federation government submitted amendments to the Law on Social Protection that would allow parent caregivers to retain their status after age 65. The proposal, supported by Minister of Labour and Social Policy Adnan Delić, aims to protect roughly 3,000 families, such as that of Asmira Dedejić, whose 19‑year‑old daughter Amina requires constant care. Association president Ines Kavalec said the change “recognises parents who spend their lives behind four walls” and could improve the broader social protection system.
