Federica Brignone undergoes successful knee surgery in Milan
Olympic alpine skier Federica Brignone has successfully undergone surgery in Milan to remove metal hardware from her left knee. The procedure, performed at the La Madonnina clinic by Dr. Andrea Panzeri, involved the removal of a plate and screws that had been implanted following a severe injury in April 2025.
Brignone, a double gold medalist from the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics, decided on the intervention after experiencing persistent pain during physical activities and skiing. While doctors initially considered intervening on the meniscus, an arthroscopy confirmed that no further procedures were necessary beyond the removal of the hardware.
The athlete reported that the operation was a success and stated, “the knee is all clean and I am doing well.” She is expected to begin physiotherapy immediately and aims to gradually resume physical activity within a few weeks. This recovery step is part of her effort to return to full competition strength for the upcoming season.
