Federico García Lorca dresses to be exhibited at Teatro Solís
Nine dresses designed by Federico García Lorca have been identified in the Comedia Nacional's storage facility after decades of unknown origins. An investigation launched in late 2025 confirmed the garments were the costumes for the production of ‘La zapatera prodigiosa’ starring Margarita Xirgu, which premiered in Madrid in 1930.
The identification was achieved by comparing historical photographs of the production with Lorca's original sketches. The dresses have since been conditioned by students from the Escuela Multidisciplinaria de Arte Dramático (EMAD) as part of a textile conservation internship.
The exhibition, titled ‘Xirgu en escena, Lorca en la memoria’, will be held at the Teatro Solís on Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4, from 11:00 to 16:00 as part of Heritage Day.
