Federico Martín Aramburú murder trial continues in Paris
The trial in Paris regarding the March 2022 killing of former Argentine rugby player Federico Martín Aramburú is ongoing. The defendants, Loïk Le Priol and Romain Bouvier, face charges related to the homicide. While some political narratives have framed the incident as a hate crime linked to far-right extremism, the defense maintains the shooting was an act of self-defense following a late-night dispute at a bar.
Forensic testimony revealed that Aramburú was struck by multiple bullets, including two from behind that caused fatal injuries to his spine and vital organs. Witness testimony from a bar server and Aramburú’s friend, Shaun Hegarty, provided accounts of the chaotic scene. Hegarty testified that Le Priol aimed and fired directly at the victim. Additionally, a server claimed to have heard Le Priol state, ‘I am going to kill him,’ shortly before the incident.
During the proceedings, Aramburú’s mother, Cecilia, delivered an emotional testimony, describing the event as a crime of hate. Members of the rugby community have also attended the court to honor the victim’s memory. The court continues to examine evidence regarding premeditation versus spontaneous reaction during the altercation.
