Federmanager urges industrial boost as Prime Minister Meloni lauds Italy’s economic resilience

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sent a detailed address to the national assembly of the managers’ federation Federmanager in Rome on 2 July, expressing regret for not attending in person. She highlighted the federation’s eight‑decade role in Italy’s social‑economic change and praised recent macro‑economic results – a spread one‑third of previous levels, record‑high stock‑market performance, strong public‑debt appeal and the highest employment rate with historically low unemployment. Meloni called for deep administrative reform to remove bureaucratic hurdles and pledged to consider the federation’s proposals.

On the same day, Federmanager President Valter Quercioli presented the “Federmanager 2026 Manifesto”, a set of ten concrete policy proposals aimed at strengthening Italian industry. The document argues that raising industry’s share of GDP from around 15 % toward the 20 % benchmark of advanced economies is essential for economic security, higher wages, innovation and welfare sustainability. Key points include expanding the managerial infrastructure, “managerialising” SMEs, integrating environmental and social sustainability, ensuring competitive energy for industrial sovereignty, stabilising regulations, governing artificial intelligence, and promoting risk‑prevention culture. The manifesto also stresses using the South of Italy as a new Euro‑Mediterranean industrial platform linked to Made‑in‑Italy supply chains and global value networks.
