Fefita La Grande honored with street naming and special edition rum

Dominican merengue legend Fefita La Grande is receiving multiple honors in recognition of her six-decade career and cultural impact. In Union City, New Jersey, Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners officially designated a street, ‘Fefita La Grande Way’ (32nd Street between Bergenline and New York Avenues), to honor her contributions to Dominican culture.

The recognition in the United States is part of a broader series of commemorative activities, including state proclamations from New Jersey and her role as the Queen of the Hudson County Dominican-American Parade.

In the Dominican Republic, Avolta and J&J Spirits have launched a special edition of ‘Ron Ripiao’ rum. The artisanal product is a tribute to the artist, intended to celebrate the connection between traditional music and national heritage.
