Honors for Dominican artist Fefita La Grande

Overview

Dominican merengue artist Fefita La Grande is receiving various honors to celebrate her six-decade career and cultural impact.

In Union City, New Jersey, Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners officially designated 32nd Street, between Bergenline and New York Avenues, as ‘Fefita La Grande Way’. This dedication serves as a symbol of the Dominican community’s influence in the area and follows her role as the Queen of the Hudson County Dominican-American Parade and various state proclamations from New Jersey.

In the Dominican Republic, the artist is also being commemorated through the launch of a special edition of ‘Ron Ripiao’ rum by Avolta and J&J Spirits, intended to celebrate the link between traditional music and national heritage.
