Fehim Sali detained for suspected espionage involving Serbian BIA

Fehim Sali, a suspect in an espionage case, has been ordered into one month of pre-trial detention by the Basic Court in Prishtina. Sali, who was arrested on August 13, 2026, at the Merdare border crossing, is accused of acting as a recruited agent for the Serbian Intelligence Service (BIA).

According to Prosecutor Bekim Kodraliu, evidence gathered by the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI) suggests Sali was recruited by BIA official Zheljko Matovic. During legal proceedings, Sali reportedly admitted to being recruited and maintaining continuous contact with BIA officials.

The investigation, which has lasted over a year, alleges that Sali provided sensitive information regarding Kosovo's political situation and worked to identify and photograph AKI officials. Authorities also seized mobile phones and cash during recent raids, which are believed to be proceeds from his criminal activities.
