Kosovo espionage investigation involving Serbian BIA
Overview
Kosovo authorities arrested Fehim Sali, a resident of Dragash and Serbian citizen, on suspicion of espionage for the Serbian Security Intelligence Agency (BIA).
Following an investigation lasting over a year involving the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI), Sali allegedly provided political information regarding Kosovo and identified AKI officials through photography. Prosecutors also stated that Sali provided information on individuals belonging to the ‘Wahhabi sect’ and suggested potential targets for BIA recruitment. During raids, authorities seized mobile phones and 40,000 euros in cash. Sali reportedly admitted to being recruited by the BIA, and a judge ordered pre-trial detention for him until September 13, 2026.
Expanding on these investigations, Bekim Kodraliu, a prosecutor for the Special Prosecution of Kosovo, revealed that there have been seven identified cases of espionage and four convictions to date linked to the BIA. Among the convictions are former high-ranking Kosovo Police officials Aleksandër Vlajiq and Bojan Jevtiq, noting that Vlajiq had previously been convicted for a terrorist attack in Mitrovica.
Additionally, prosecutors highlighted the case of Hysri Selimi, who was sentenced to six years in prison for allegedly cooperating with Serbian intelligence for over 15 years by providing information on individuals who joined the Islamic State.
