Partido Popular targets Sánchez government amid Ceuta crisis

The Spanish opposition leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the Partido Popular (PP) are entering a new political term focused on challenging the government and addressing the migration crisis in Ceuta.

Feijóo has called for a lockdown in Ceuta due to “sanitary risk,” citing the detection of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and scabies following a massive influx of migrants in late July. The PP is also utilizing the Ceuta crisis to pressure the government, specifically targeting Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska following perceived contradictions between his statements and those of Defense Minister Margarita Robles regarding intelligence warnings.

Strategically, Feijóo aims to naturalize an alliance with Vox and mobilize local mayors to bolster the party's electoral strength. Meanwhile, regional leaders like Paco Núñez in Castilla-La Mancha are calling for a motion of censure against Pedro Sánchez to force immediate general elections, arguing the current political situation is “insustainable.”
