Feira de Santana secures municipal backing for major martial arts championships

Mayor José Ronaldo met with Jiu‑Jitsu federation leaders Humberto Tavares and Samuel Carvalho to confirm municipal support for the Open Jiu‑Jitsu tournament scheduled for 16 August at the Complexo Esportivo Oyama Pinto. The mayor pledged infrastructure, logistics and technical assistance, saying, “It is a great satisfaction to host an event of this magnitude and international relevance.”

A separate meeting gathered representatives of karate, judo, Muay Thai, boxing, Lando, kickboxing, Krav Maga, Kung Fu, MMA and other disciplines, along with councilor Edvaldo Lima and sports superintendent Emerson Brito. They discussed organizing a multi‑discipline championship that could involve about 3,000 athletes from across the region. The proposal aims to position Feira de Santana as a regional hub for martial arts, attract investors and tourists, and use sport as a tool for social inclusion, according to the mayor’s remarks.
