In late July 2026 Brazilian cities in Bahia announced a series of high‑profile combat‑sport events slated for August. Salvador confirmed that MMA fighter Douglas “Zumbi do Sertão” Puro Osso will compete at the 16th Qualify Combat tournament on 22 August, while world‑ranked capoeira champion Pâmella Dandara will take part in the Red Bull Paranauê championship on 29 August in the historic Pelourinho district.
A week later, Feira de Santana’s mayor José Ronaldo pledged municipal support for an Open Jiu‑Jitsu tournament scheduled for 16 August at the Complexo Esportivo Oyama Pinto. Officials also discussed a larger multi‑discipline championship that could involve around 3,000 athletes from jiu‑jitsu, karate, judo, Muay Thai, boxing, kick‑boxing, Krav Maga, Kung Fu and other styles. The coordinated efforts aim to position Bahia as a regional hub for martial arts, attract tourism and investment, and use sport for social inclusion.
