Brazil announces six film finalists for 2027 Oscar selection

The Brazilian Academy of Cinema has announced the six finalists competing to represent Brazil in the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Oscars. The selection was narrowed down from an initial list of 15 eligible films.

The six shortlisted films are:

• “100 Dias” (Carlos Saldanha): A film following Amyr Klink’s rowing crossing of the South Atlantic. • “A Fabulosa Máquina do Tempo” (Eliza Capai): A story about girls in the Piauí sertão. • “A Natureza das Coisas Invisíveis” (Rafaela Camelo): A drama set in Goiás involving two girls. • “Feito Pipa” (Allan Deberton): A drama about a young boy in Ceará and his relationship with his grandmother. • “Nosso Segredo” (Grace Passô): A narrative about a Black family navigating loss. • “Vicentina Pede Desculpas” (Gabriel Martins): A film centered on a bus accident in Belo Horizonte.

The final decision on which film will be the official Brazilian representative is scheduled to be announced on September 16. The chosen production will then undergo the selection process by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood. The 99th Academy Awards ceremony is set for March 14, 2027.
