Feito Pipa selected as Brazil's entry for 2027 Oscars

The film ‘Feito Pipa’, directed by Allan Deberton, has been selected by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts to represent Brazil in the race for Best International Feature Film at the 2027 Oscars.

Set in the sertão of Ceará, the film follows Gugu, an 11-year-old boy raised by his grandmother, Dilma. The narrative explores themes of family bonds, gender identity, and the challenges of childhood as Gugu faces his grandmother’s declining health due to Alzheimer’s and the possibility of moving in with his father, played by Lázaro Ramos.

‘Feito Pipa’ has already received international recognition, including awards at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Gramado Film Festival.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian film ‘Vicentina Pede Desculpas’, directed by Gabriel Martins, failed to win the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival. As a result, it did not secure automatic eligibility for the Oscars, leaving ‘Feito Pipa’ as Brazil’s sole representative in the official selection process for the 2027 awards.
