Felipe González calls on Pedro Sánchez to assume responsibility for Ábalos sentencing and call elections
Former prime minister Felipe González urged President Pedro Sánchez, during a meeting in Toledo, to take political responsibility for the Supreme Court's conviction of former minister José Luis Ábalos, who received a 24‑year prison term in the mask‑procurement scandal. González said the case showed a clear “political responsibility” that must be addressed by either resigning or calling early general elections.
He added that Ábalos and former minister Santos Cerdán had been “the right hand” of Sánchez, appointed on his trust. González called on the PSOE federal committee to demand explanations, emphasizing that leadership requires assuming accountability.
