FEMA approves $92 million for Indiana storm survivors

FEMA has approved more than $92 million in federal assistance for over 22,000 storm survivors in Indiana following historic flooding. The assistance is intended to help residents cover critical needs that are not met by insurance or other resources.

Survivors can apply for aid through the Individuals and Households Program (IHP). FEMA notes that having insurance does not disqualify residents from applying, though assistance is not a substitute for insurance coverage. Applicants are encouraged to file insurance claims first and provide documentation, such as a settlement or denial letter, to FEMA. If insurance benefits cover the same expenses as federal aid, the assistance must be repaid.

To apply, residents should prepare proof of identification, banking information, proof of occupancy, and insurance documentation. Applications can be submitted online at disasterassistance.gov, via the FEMA app, or by calling 800-621-3362.
