Female e‑hailing driver assaulted by teenagers in Melaka, Malaysia

A 41‑year‑old female e‑hailing driver was attacked on the early morning of 4 May (reported 14 May) near Kuala Sungai Baru in the Alor Gajah district of Melaka, Malaysia. Four passengers – two 14‑year‑old girls and two boys aged 15 and 17 – refused to pay the fare after the driver stopped to await an online money transfer. The teens re‑entered the vehicle, struck the driver with an iron rod, pulled her hair and a 17‑year‑old boy strangled her with a cloth, leaving bruises, swelling and neck marks.

The driver managed to drive away, filed a police report and received treatment for injuries to her nose, neck and hands. Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar confirmed that all four suspects were arrested the same day and remanded under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon or dangerous means.
