Female leadership representation declines in Brazilian corporate hierarchies
Data from the Panorama Mulheres study, conducted by Talenses Group in partnership with Insper, highlights a declining trend of female representation in Brazilian corporate leadership as hierarchy levels increase. While women hold 30% of director positions, their presence drops to 20% for vice-presidencies and 17% for presidencies.
HR executive Joana Moreira identifies that the barrier for highly qualified women is often a matter of strategic positioning rather than competence. She notes that many professionals mistakenly view promotions as rewards for good behavior or years of dedication, whereas promotions are ultimately business decisions. To advance, Moreira suggests women must take an active role in their career construction, communicate results, and avoid the trap of waiting to be 100% ready before applying for leadership roles.
