Fengyun satellites provide disaster monitoring for Nepal
Following a severe landslide at the Changling-Rasua border post between China and Nepal, the China Meteorological Administration has activated its international disaster prevention and relief emergency assistance mechanism.
The response utilizes the Fengyun meteorological satellites to provide Nepal with multi-source satellite data and products. This is facilitated through China’s intelligent meteorological early warning system, known as “Maju,” which supports cross-border disaster monitoring and emergency meteorological services.
To monitor regional rainfall and weather developments, the National Satellite Meteorological Center has conducted intensive observations using the Fengyun-4B satellite. The data integration includes cloud imagery animations, convection data, rainfall estimates, lightning monitoring from the Fengyun-4C satellite, and rainfall data from the Fengyun-3G satellite. The service system has been optimized to provide real-time integration of rapid scanning imaging and satellite lightning data to meet Nepal’s specific needs.
