Ferencváros supporters face scrutiny over threatening derby banners

Following a derby match between Ferencváros (FTC) and Újpest, a controversy has erupted over threatening banners displayed by FTC supporters at the Groupama Arena. The banners contained messages such as “Love Fradi, and you will be happy. If you harm Fradi, you will be dead” and “If you harm Fradi, we will beat you to death.”

In response, Ferencváros president Gábor Kubatov issued a statement on social media urging supporters to refrain from violence and intimidation. The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) has announced a disciplinary proceeding, stating that all forms of blackmail, threats, and hate speech are unacceptable and exceed the boundaries of disciplinary procedures.

Major sponsor Magyar Telekom also distanced itself from the incident, noting that such behavior contradicts its values of a safe and family-friendly stadium environment. While Telekom has requested information on future prevention measures from both FTC and the stadium operator, Sportfive Hungary Kft., it clarified that it is not severing its partnership with the club.
