A forest fire ignited around 13:00 on 30 July 2026 in the Parque Natural de los Arribes del Duero near the Picón area on the Tormes slope, close to the town of Fermoselle in Zamora. The blaze was classified IGR level‑2 because of its seriousness and proximity to populated areas.

The fire has burned roughly 11 000 hectares and forced the evacuation of fourteen villages, displacing about 800 residents, including around 80 elderly people from a local care home who were moved to sports halls and other shelters. Two additional villages, Villar del Buey and Pasariegos, were evacuated during the night, with 25 senior residents transferred to a facility in Zamora.

Around forty to fifty firefighting resources – helicopters, aerial water‑dropping aircraft and ground crews – have been deployed, supplemented by a Qatari contingent that arrived with 79 specialists and is expected to reach 130 personnel. The autonomous community of Cantabria also sent ten firefighters and two environmental agents to assist. While the north and east fronts were stabilized on the night of 31 July, four sectors on the south and west remain active amid strong winds and high temperatures. Several roads remain closed and the situation is forecast to stay critical.
