Unidad Nacional expels deputy Alejandro Reyes over leaked audio
The political alliance Unidad Nacional has expelled deputy Alejandro Reyes following the leak of an audio recording involving Argentine consultant Fernando Cerimedo. The recording, which dates back to a 53-day period of road blockades, allegedly captures a conversation where Cerimedo discusses political strategies and suggests that the government under Rodrigo Paz should risk casualties to resolve the unrest.
Cerimedo has denied the authenticity of the audio, claiming it was manipulated using artificial intelligence and that he never expressed a desire for loss of life. He further alleged that the recording combines real, illegally obtained conversations with AI-generated fragments.
In Bolivia, legislators have reacted to the leak by calling for Reyes to face the Ethics Commission. Additionally, lawyer Nadia Beller has accused Cerimedo of acting as a ‘shadow president’ during the Paz administration, claiming he exerted undue influence over ministerial appointments and state operations.
