Fernando Cerimedo remains in detention as legal battles continue in Bolivia
Legal proceedings continue in Bolivia regarding the case of Argentine consultant Fernando Cerimedo, who is accused of attempted femicide against lawyer Nadia Beller. A criminal court recently maintained Cerimedo’s preventive detention for 180 days and ordered his transfer to the Palmasola prison in Santa Cruz. While the defense argued that chat messages used as evidence were insufficient to prove authorship, the court ruled that these elements alone do not establish his participation.
Nadia Beller has publicly denounced attempts to incriminate her in order to divert attention from the case against Cerimedo. She claims authorities are attempting to manufacture a narcotics-related case against her using old photographs to undermine her credibility.
In a separate development, prison authorities in Bolivia intercepted an attempt to smuggle a mobile phone to Cerimedo at the Choncocoro prison. Officials confirmed the device was being introduced by an inmate through an irregular method, and an investigation has been launched to determine how the communication device was being moved.
