Fernando Haddad addresses ‘TarLula’ voting trend in São Paulo

Fernando Haddad, the former Finance Minister and PT candidate for the government of São Paulo, addressed the ‘TarLula’ voting phenomenon. According to a Quaest poll, 11% of voters in São Paulo who intend to vote for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for president also expressed intention to vote for Tarcísio de Freitas for the state government.

Haddad argued that the interpretation of this trend is “scientifically mistaken.” He suggested that these voters are not necessarily seeking Tarcísio, but are instead looking for Lula as a way to “escape” voting for Flávio Bolsonaro for president.

Haddad characterized the rejection of Flávio Bolsonaro as a reason for celebration, stating that the senator represents an institutional risk to the country. He further criticized Bolsonaro’s ethical standing, citing unresolved questions regarding his assets and financial history.
