Fernando Haddad pledges education overhaul and urges quick definition of São Paulo ticket

Former finance minister Fernando Haddad, pre‑candidate for São Paulo governor, warned that the state's high‑school system is experiencing a "retrocesso marcante" with falling enrollments and quality complaints from teachers and students. He said a recovery plan will be presented by June and proposes to copy the Federal Institutes model, integrating technical and secondary education into state schools.

Haddad also criticised Governor Tarcísio de Freitas for opposing the end of the 6‑day‑plus‑1‑hour work schedule and for not supporting an income‑tax exemption for earners up to R$ 5,000, accusing the governor of siding with employers over workers.

Deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB‑SP) called for a rapid decision on Haddad's running mate and the Senate slot, saying "não podemos perder o tempo do que acontece na rua" and noting that delays hurt the campaign while opponents already have their ticket set. Simone Tebet is expected to be the Senate candidate on Haddad's slate, with other spots still undecided.
