Fernando Haddad's Unicamp lecture disrupted by MBL protesters

On July 2, 2026, PT pre‑candidate for São Paulo governor Fernando Haddad held a magna aula at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) to discuss Brazil’s economic challenges. The event was interrupted when members of the Movimento Brasil Livre (MBL) entered the Arena theater, shouted questions and insults, and engaged in physical confrontations. Security staff removed the agitators; Haddad remained on stage and resumed the lecture after a brief pause.

Video footage showed MBL pre‑candidate Matheus Pereira being kicked by a man he identified as Haddad’s security, and other MBL activist Gabriel Piauhy also present. Unicamp issued a statement calling the interruption "unacceptable" and condemning the violence, while the PT denounced the incident as right‑wing extremist aggression.

During the same lecture Haddad criticized a state constitutional amendment that cuts university funding and warned about the rise of militia‑like security firms in São Paulo. No comment was obtained from Haddad’s campaign or the university.
