Ferrari designer Jony Ive defends Luce electric car aesthetics

Designer Jony Ive and his firm, LoveFrom, have defended the aesthetic direction of the Ferrari Luce, the brand's first electric vehicle. Despite widespread criticism from the public and media regarding its appearance, Ive maintains that the design aims to create something new and different rather than merely imitating existing styles.

Ferrari’s global marketing director, Emanuele Carando, noted that while the negative reaction was unexpected, the media impact has been significant. He compared the current controversy to the initial reception of the Purosangue, which faced similar skepticism before becoming a popular model. Carando explained that the Luce's proportions, including a shorter hood, were specifically designed to optimize the space and driving precision inherent to a 100% electric platform.
