Ferrari Luce electric car sells for $40 million at auction

The first production model of the Ferrari Luce, designated ‘Chassis 0’, has sold for $40 million at an RM Sotheby’s auction in California. This sale marks a significant milestone for the Italian manufacturer as it enters the electric vehicle market. The final price far exceeded the initial estimate of $1.1 million.

The buyer of the vehicle is 87-year-old American billionaire and philanthropist Herbert Wertheim. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Ferrari Foundation to support educational initiatives. RM Sotheby’s reported that no buyer’s commission was taken for this transaction.

As a ‘Tailor Made’ special edition, Chassis 0 features unique specifications, including a Madreperla Semi-Gloss body color, Perla Le Mans metallic leather, and Grigio Corvara details. The Luce is a high-performance electric vehicle boasting 1,050 hp, a 122 kWh battery, and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 2.5 seconds.
