Ferrari Luce electric car sells for record $40 million at auction

The first Ferrari Luce, a fully electric model identified as ‘Chassis 0’, has set a new auction record, selling for $40 million through Sotheby’s. This price is nearly 40 times the initial estimate of $1.1 million and exceeds the previous record for a new car sold at auction by approximately €12 million.

The buyer, 87-year-old billionaire Herbert Wertheim, intends to donate the full proceeds to the Ferrari Foundation to fund educational programs and youth initiatives. Wertheim plans to use the vehicle as a tool for future fundraising campaigns.

The unique ‘Tailor Made’ vehicle features a Madreperla Semi-Gloss finish that shifts between emerald green and violet, white rims, and white brake calipers. Built to North American specifications, the car is powered by a four-motor electric system producing 1,035 hp, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. Following final validation in Maranello, the vehicle is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2027.
