Ferrari Luce electric car sells for record $40 million

The first production model of the Ferrari Luce, a fully electric vehicle, has sold for $40 million at an RM Sotheby’s auction during Monterey Car Week in California. This sale sets a new world record for the highest price paid for a new car at auction, surpassing the previous record of $26 million set by a Ferrari Daytona SP3 in 2025.

Known as ‘Chassis 0’, the one-off vehicle was customized through Ferrari’s Tailor Made program. It features a semi-gloss mother-of-pearl exterior, bespoke wheels, and brake calipers, with an interior utilizing Perla Le Mans leather. The design of the Luce was led by LoveFrom, the studio founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive.

All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Ferrari Foundation to support charitable initiatives, specifically focusing on advancing technical education and opportunities for future generations. The Luce is Ferrari’s first series-production battery-electric vehicle, boasting over 1,000 cv in boost mode and a top speed of 310 km/h.
