Ferrero celebrates 50 years of Nutella production in Lithgow

The Ferrero Group has marked the 50th anniversary of its manufacturing facility in Lithgow, New South Wales. Established in 1976 as the company’s first factory outside of Europe, the site initially produced Tic Tac before beginning Nutella production in 1978. The facility currently serves as a dedicated Nutella hub, producing approximately 15 million kilograms annually for markets in Australia, New Zealand, and parts of East and North Asia.

To commemorate the milestone, Ferrero hosted an event for employees, families, community partners, and political representatives. The celebration included staff awards and demonstrations regarding food safety and quality.

Over the last three years, Ferrero has invested $30 million into the Lithgow site. Recent upgrades include a rooftop solar array capable of supplying up to 20 per cent of the factory’s electricity needs and an electric hazelnut roaster that has reduced gas requirements by nearly 90 per cent. As part of these efforts, the site received Platinum Project recognition through the NSW Government’s Sustainability Advantage Program.
