Ferrero Nutella production anniversary in Lithgow
Overview
The Ferrero manufacturing plant in Lithgow, Australia, is marking 50 years of Nutella production. Originally opened in 1976 to produce Tic Tacs, the facility began Nutella production in 1978 and has since become a dedicated hub for the hazelnut spread.
The plant produces approximately 15 million kilograms of Nutella annually, with a significant portion distributed to Australia, New Zealand, and various markets across East and North Asia. The workforce consists of 86 employees representing 12 different nationalities.
To commemorate the milestone, Ferrero hosted an event for staff, families, community partners, and political representatives, which included staff awards and demonstrations of food safety and quality. Recent developments at the site include a $30 million investment over the last three years, featuring upgrades such as a rooftop solar array and an electric hazelnut roaster designed to reduce gas requirements by nearly 90 per cent. These sustainability efforts earned the site Platinum Project recognition through the NSW Government’s Sustainability Advantage Program.
