France launches nationwide 5‑Euro cinema festival
From 28 June to 1 July 2026, the Fédération nationale des cinémas français (FNCF) is running a nationwide "Fête du cinéma" with a single ticket price of €5 for any film or screening. The low‑cost programme aims to attract large crowds during a heat‑wave, offering a mix of new releases such as *Toy Story 5* and *Minions & Watch*, genre titles like *Backrooms* and *Obsession*, and a sci‑fi offering from Steven Spielberg titled *Disclosure Day*.
Organisers cite a record 3.1 million tickets sold in the week preceding the event – a 65 % rise on the previous year – after more than 3 million people attended the festival in 2025. The €5 price is intended to make cinema accessible to a broad public and to boost attendance across French theatres during the four‑day celebration.
