Festivals in Confrides and Alcoi face schedule and location changes
Local festivities in the Valencian region are undergoing adjustments due to environmental concerns and scheduled programming. In Confrides, the Patron Saint Festivals are set to take place from August 21 to 25, centered on the “Mare de Déu dels Dolors”. The program includes religious acts such as a solemn mass and procession on August 25, alongside musical performances, traditional “moros y cristianos” displays, and community dining.
In Alcoi, the Mare de Déu dels Lliris celebrations have been relocated from Font Roja to the Sant Maure and Sant Francesc parish to ensure public safety. This decision follows a report from the Generalitat Valenciana regarding extreme drought and high temperatures, which have increased wildfire risks. The report noted that the Font Roja area's configuration could complicate evacuations in an emergency. To accommodate the change, the city will provide a free special bus service for attendees.
