Festival scheduling and safety adjustments in Valencia

Festivals in the Valencian region are undergoing various scheduling and logistical adjustments. In Alcoi, the City Council rejected a request to declare April 23, 2027, a holiday to mark the conclusion of the Vatican-granted Jubilee year, citing concerns from local merchants. Additionally, the Federació de Fogueres de Sant Joan postponed the presentation of its 2026–2027 festival calendar until September 1 to allow for new assemblies and event planning.

Further changes have been implemented due to environmental safety concerns. In Alcoi, the Mare de Déu dels Lliris celebrations were relocated from Font Roja to the Sant Maure and Sant Francesc parish. This move follows a Generalitat Valenciana report warning that extreme drought and high temperatures have increased wildfire risks, making the Font Roja area difficult to evacuate in an emergency. To assist with this relocation, the city is providing a free special bus service. Meanwhile, in Confrides, the Patron Saint Festivals are scheduled for August 21 to 25, featuring religious processions and traditional displays.
