Festus Keyamo engages aviation OEMs at El Alamein airshow

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, held discussions with global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) at the second El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt. The engagements aimed to strengthen Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, improve procurement processes, and enhance technical support for domestic carriers.

Keyamo focused on addressing challenges such as fleet modernisation, high maintenance costs, and the need for improved Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. By establishing closer ties with manufacturers, the Ministry seeks to reduce reliance on foreign workshops, which currently contributes to aircraft downtime and foreign exchange drainage. The discussions also targeted securing more favorable terms for aircraft acquisition and spare parts supply.

Additionally, the Minister met with a Saudi Arabian delegation to discuss early preparations for future Hajj operations. These talks focused on improving air transportation coordination to ensure the seamless movement of Nigerian pilgrims in upcoming seasons.
