Nigeria-Egypt aviation cooperation discussions

During the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, engaged in multiple high-level discussions to advance the nation’s aviation sector.

Initially, Minister Keyamo met with Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, to discuss bilateral cooperation, air connectivity, and technical capacity. A primary focus of this meeting was a request for EgyptAir to modernize its fleet on Nigerian routes by replacing ageing aircraft with newer models to improve efficiency and passenger experience.

Following these bilateral talks, the Minister met with global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to address infrastructure challenges, including high maintenance costs and the need for improved Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. The goal of these engagements is to reduce reliance on foreign workshops and secure better terms for aircraft and spare parts acquisition. Additionally, discussions were held with a Saudi Arabian delegation regarding the coordination of future Hajj operations to ensure seamless transportation for Nigerian pilgrims.
