FESYTRAC faces leadership crisis amid union dispute

The Federation of Communication Workers (FESYTRAC) is facing a leadership crisis that has drawn the attention of the Ministry of Communication and Media in Congo. Following an ordinary general assembly on July 16, 2026, a new executive bureau was elected and inaugurated by the Confederation of Workers of Congo (CSTC), with Adrien Léopold Ngoye serving as the secretary general in charge of coordination and orientation.

However, a dispute has emerged because Edouard Adzotsa, the former secretary for organization and mobilization, continues to claim the position of secretary general. The CSTC, led by President Elault Bello Bellard, has denounced this as an usurpation of power, stating that Adzotsa resigned from the central union and consequently from FESYTRAC. Bellard noted that the documentation Adzotsa relies on dates back to 2016 and lacks current assembly minutes or membership lists.

The Ministry of Communication is under pressure to maintain neutrality in accordance with Congolese legislation and International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, which prohibit the administration from directly designating union representatives. The CSTC has urged the ministry to recognize only the legally registered bureau to avoid fueling internal division and complicating social dialogue within the communication sector.
