FESYTRAC union leadership dispute in Congo

A leadership dispute has emerged within the Federation of Communication Workers (FESYTRAC) in Congo-Brazzaville. Following a general assembly on July 16, 2026, the Confederation of Workers of Congo (CSTC) inaugurated a new executive bureau, appointing Adrien Léopold Ngoye as secretary general. The CSTC has accused Edouard Adzotsa, the former secretary for organization and mobilization, of “usurpation of power,” claiming he resigned from the central union and is relying on outdated 2016 documentation.

In response, Edouard Adzotsa has issued a formal right of reply to contest these allegations. He denies any usurpation of power, asserting that he has led the federation since its founding in June 2003. Adzotsa maintains his legitimacy by citing Article 185 of the Labor Code and historical administrative documents, including a 2004 labor inspection report. He further suggested that the conflict is intensified by rivalries with the CSTC.

The Ministry of Communication and Media is facing pressure to remain neutral and adhere to International Labour Organization conventions, which prohibit the administration from directly designating union representatives. The CSTC has called on the ministry to recognize only the legally registered bureau to prevent further internal division within the communication sector.
