Fever dreams are more intense and negative than normal dreams

Research indicates that dreams experienced during a fever, known as ‘fever dreams’, tend to be more unusual, intense, and negative compared to dreams during normal body temperatures. A study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology analyzed 100 dream reports from individuals with fevers, finding that these dreams frequently involve strange elements, negative nuances, and sensations related to health or body temperature.

Participants reported illogical changes in their dream environments, such as rooms changing size or objects appearing distorted. While a definitive cause for this phenomenon has not been established, researchers suggest that the increase in body temperature during an infection may affect how the brain processes information during sleep, thereby altering the dreaming experience.
