Feyenoord bans away fans following fireworks incident in Leeuwarden

Following a pyrotechnics incident during an Eredivisie match between SC Cambuur and Feyenoord, seven Cambuur supporters were injured, suffering burns, hearing damage, and eye injuries. In response, Feyenoord has self-imposed a ban on traveling supporters for its next two away matches against NEC and PEC Zwolle.

Dutch Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel has called for stricter stadium access controls to prevent the smuggling of large quantities of fireworks. Additionally, the Football and Safety Audit Team has recommended implementing technology such as scan gates and smart cameras to improve security. The KNVB is also reviewing protocols for matches interrupted by spectator disorder.

Nijmegen Mayor Hubert Bruls has stated that Feyenoord supporters may be barred from their upcoming match against NEC if the perpetrators of the Leeuwarden incident are not apprehended. Feyenoord is currently working with the police and the Public Prosecution Service to identify those responsible.
